How to Reset the Message Waiting Indicator

Problem/Question

My (Red) Message Waiting Indicator light is on but I do not have any messages. How do I turn it off?

 


Overview

MWI Behavior

MWI stands for message waiting indicator. When a caller leaves a message for a subscriber, Cisco Unity connection notifies the phone system to activate the MWI on the subscriber's phone which is done by turning on the red light of the phone along with a blinking message icon on the Phone.


Solution

If the MWI is staying on or not turning on :

1. Pickup handset 

2. Type 1999

3. Press Dial

This should reset the MWI.
