Problem/Question
How to configure Kumo to access and save files securely on UM-Dearborn shared computers.
Overview
UM-Dearborn classroom and computing lab computers are shared environments. Files saved locally may be lost after logout or reboot. To ensure your data is secure and accessible across sessions, use Kumo to connect your cloud storage accounts (U-M Dropbox, U-M Google Drive, and OneDrive). Once configured, these accounts appear as network drives, allowing you to save and access files reliably.
Note: Kumo only supports individual cloud storage accounts. Shared/team drives are not supported.
Solution
Configure Kumo for Cloud Storage Access
- Go to the Kumo website
- Click Login and sign in using your UMICH credentials.
- If you're already logged into your browser with your UMICH account, Kumo will authenticate automatically.
- If not, use an incognito/private browser window to log in with your UMICH credentials.
- For U-M Google Drive, you may need to enter your full email address before authorization prompts appear.
- Authorize each cloud service by expanding the dropdown and clicking Authorize.
- Once authorized, a green checkmark will appear next to the service.
- If not, try authorizing again.
- You can Deauthorize access at any time if needed.
You only need to authorize Kumo once. After setup, your cloud drives will appear under "This PC" on UM-Dearborn classroom and lab computers.
Best Practices for Shared Computers
- Always save files to your cloud storage via Kumo — never locally.
- Log out completely when finished to protect your data and privacy.
- Check that your cloud drives are connected before starting work, especially in classrooms or labs.
