Problem/Question

Which APC Surge Protector models are affected by the recall?

Overview

APC has put out a safety recall (https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA158846/) for certain surge protection devices manufactured before 2003. A lot of these surge protectors are used around campus to power our equipment. Currently we are in the process of finding all the affected devices and starting the return process, this document guides you on how to identify them. Keep in mind we understand that surge protectors are sometimes in difficult to reach spots and if that is the case please contact the Service Desk and we can have someone come look at it for you.

The affected series and model numbers are the 8 and 7 series.

If the two numbers that follow the first letter(s) in the serial number sequence are 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01,or 02 then your product is included in the recall.

Solution

To find out if your surge protector is under recall :

1) Locate the serial barcode sticker on the bottom or rear of your product

2) Verify that the model number is in the 8 or 7 series affected device list

3) Verify that the serial number is in the affected device list. If the two numbers that follow the first letter(s) in the serial number sequence are 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01,or 02 then your product is included in the recall.

4) Contact the Service Desk through one of the methods below and provide them with the model and serial number of each of the affected devices. If you really need help please contact the Service Desk and we can have someone come look at it for you.
