Zoom Participants are not being put into Pre-Assigned Breakout Rooms


Hosts create Breakout Rooms before the meeting in Zoom starts, but participants are not assigned to those rooms.


Zoom provides students, faculty, and staff with the ability to message and chat with each other through videotelephony and online chat services through a cloud-based peer-to-peer software platform


When non-hosts are not logged into Zoom, zoom will not be able to identify them properly.  That prevents their assignment into appropriate Break Out rooms.

The best solution when this happens is to make sure attendees log in to http://zoom.umich.edu or via SSO on the Zoom client.


NOTE: Sometimes individuals click the link they receive for the zoom meeting but have never actually logged in to Zoom. 

Once they log in, participants can join the meeting to ensure the best experience.
