How to Secure Print on your Department Xerox

Question

What is Secure Print? How do I securely print documents to a Xerox?

Overview

Secure Print is a type of print job that is best recommended for printing sensitive or confidential information. After a user sends a Secure Print job, it is held at the copier until the user enters a passcode at the printer control panel in order to release it.

Solution

1. When getting ready to print a document, select the Xerox copier and click Properties to open the Xerox settings. Certain applications may show the print dialogue differently, examples are included below.

Printing in Adobe Acrobat - click the Properties button to proceed.

Printing in Microsoft Office - click the Printer Properties button to continue.

Printing from Google Chrome - click on More settings, then scroll to the bottom and click Print using system dialog..., then More settings in the resulting pop-up window.

2. Under the Printing Options tab, go to Job Type and select Secure Print from the dropdown.

3. Enter a passcode. This will be needed at the Xerox copier in order to release the Secure Print. If this is forgotten, a new Secure Print job will need to be sent with a new passcode set. ITS will not know and cannot reset your passcode.

4. At the Xerox copier, select Jobs from the main screen. Note: The following images are for a Xerox AltaLink C8000 series - images may vary on the exact model of your copier.

5. Select "Secure Jobs" in the top right.

6. Select your uniqname from the list of queued Secure Jobs.

7. Enter the passcode that you set in order to see your Secure Print jobs and release them.
