Overview

This knowledge base will cover how to update your mac to macOS 14 Sonoma on the following version

Solution

Prior to installing the new OS or update:

  • Set aside at least an hour for the installation to run, your computer will be unavailable during this period of time.
  • Plug in your computer to a power source.
  • Connect your computer to a wired Internet connection (if possible).
  • Install all pending updates available in the Managed Software Center.
  • Check to see how much sure hard drive space you have for the install. Generally, 12 to 25GB free should be enough.

Installing the Update:

  1.  Click the Apple logo in the top left corner and select System Settings.
  2.  Select General

  3. Select Software Update

  4. Select Upgrade Now

  5. Once it finishes downloading, you will begin the install process. Select Continue

  6. Enter your password. Note: if you are not an admin on your computer, please contact the Service Desk.

  7. You will select the disk you want to install it to, Select Macintosh HD

  8. Wait for the installer to run, keep your Mac plugged in as this happens. The computer will turn off and on a couple time. This could take anywhere from 50-100 minutes.
  9. Once the install is finished, you will be asked to sign in.
