Approving the Mobile Device Management (MDM) Profile

Question

I recently received an email saying that my MDM (Mobile Device Management) Profile needs to be approved. How do I approve it?

Overview

Your MDM profile is what the university uses to manage the Apple devices they own. It allows the device to be able to receive things from software access, maintenance and up to device security. In the past the MDM profile was automatically approved but now all computers running any macOS after 10.13.6 must be approved manually. The process itself is very simple and takes less than 5mins to carry out.

If you do not approve the profile it will lead to other issues with updates and you could end up losing data or your device not functioning properly. Additionally prior to any updates you must get your MDM profile approved.

Solution

Approving your MDM Profile

*Approving your MDM Profile is a REQUIREMENT before updating your computer operating system*

1. Go to System Preferences (do a Finder search if you do not know where it is) then click on Profiles

2. On this window on the left side where it says Device Profiles click the profile named MDM Profile, click on Approve the let the process complete.

3. Restart your computer

4. Return to System Preference > Profiles go back to the MDM Profile and check to see if the approval button is gone it should look like this:

          5. Congratulations you have approved your profile.
