Reactivate Duo Mobile on New Phone or Tablet

Problem/Question

Setting up Duo on a new device.

Overview

Duo two factor authentication is the method of two factor authentication used across the UM campuses to ensure the security of a member of the university's account.

Solution

If you have a new phone number, you will need to contact the Ann Arbor Service Center to get a Duo Bypass Code.

If have the same phone number, you can use the Phone call option for Duo Authentication

  1. Go to password.it.umich.edu

  2. Login with your uniqname and password.
    • When Prompted for Duo, use the phone call or Passcode Option

  3. Click Manage Duo Devices

    • Authenticate to Duo again, if prompted, (since app push is unavailable, use the phone call or SMS option).

  4. For the phone/tablet to be reactivated, click Device Options.

  5. Click Reactivate Duo Mobile.

  6. Follow the prompts:
    • Install the app on your device if not already installed.
    • Open the app and click the "+" sign in the upper right.
    • Scan the QR code.
    • Click continue.

  7. The device should be set up.

If the phone call option isn't working and a backup device wasn't set up, the 4Help Service Center can either reactivate Duo mobile on your behalf, or can assign a temporary Duo bypass code to provide to allow you to sign in and update your own settings.

Because this would require identity verification, please contact the Ann Arbor 4Help Servicedesk at 734-764-4357.
