Overview

The technology available in the classroom is as follows:

  • 9x Monitors
  • Classroom Computer
  • Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
  • HDMI/USB-C adapter
  • USB Ports x2
  • Document Camera
  • Extron Touch Panel
  • Teacher Station
  • Web Camera

Teacher Station
At the front of the class is the teacher station, it consists of the keyboard/mouse, teacher station and document camera. The document camera can be accessed from a shortcut on the desktop of the computer. Monitors number 1 and 9 are the main displays for the classroom computer.

For connectivity at the teachers station there is the following:

  • BYOD - USB-C / HDMI adapter - Allows you to connect a laptop or another device to be displayed instead of the room computer.
  • USB-A extensions - Allows you to plug into the USB of the room computer.

The Web Camera is above Monitor 1 and can be used for Zoom.

Classroom Monitors
Next there are a total of 9 monitors around the classroom and they are labeled with their corresponding number.

Monitors 2-8 each have a USB-C/HDMI connector that the class participants can connect to display their laptop screen.Provide a brief overview of the problem.

Using the Classroom

The Extron Touch Panel controls are located at the teacher station in the front of the class.

The three modes to choose* from are:

  • Lecture
  • Active
  • Meeting

*Keep in mind that you cannot switch between the options without powering off the room*

Universal Controls - These controls are available regardless of what mode you choose.

  • Hide - hides the display on the corresponding Monitor
  • Select - selects the corresponding Monitor to display
  • Audio Mute - Mutes the audio on the corresponding Monitor

LECTURE MODE

Setup: This is more of a traditional lecture room setup. Monitor# 1 and 9 present to the class while Monitor#5 acts as a confidence monitor so that the instructor can see what they are showing on the screen.

Monitors Used: 1, 5, 9 (ONLY)

Display Options: Room PC or Room HDMI (from Teacher Desk Only)

Restrictions: You can only use Monitors 1, 5 and 9. You can only display the Room PC or the Room HDMI.

ACTIVE MODE

Setup: This mode allows both the presenter and participant to share their screen with everyone. The sharing is one at a time, not simultaneously, so either the presenter or the participant can share their screen.

Monitors Used: All (1 through 9)

Display Options:

  • Room PC or Room HDMI (from Teacher Desk)
  • Monitor HDMI: (individual HDMI cable at Monitors (2 through 8))

Restrictions: Whatever is shared will be displayed on ALL screens.

MEETING MODE

Setup: Think of this option as setting up little breakout rooms, each of the Monitors would be their own “breakout room”. This option would be good for breaking the class into groups and allowing them to use the HDMI at the Monitor they are sitting at to display to their group.

Monitors Used: All (1 through 9)

Restrictions:

  • Room PC Displays on Monitor# 1 and 9 ONLY
  • Room HDMI cannot be used
