GlobalProtect Stale Request fix for personal Windows computers

Body

Problem/Question

The GlobalProtect Windows application will give users on personal devices a Stale Request error while trying to sign in to a VPN portal.

Overview

The GlobalProtect application does not recognize pressing the Enter key to continue as the same thing as clicking Log In with your cursor and as a result, users who press Enter receive a Stale Request similar to the one below.

This error can be avoided by clicking the Log In button but if pressing Enter is necessary or more comfortable for you, you can follow the instructions in the next section to apply the Registry Edit attached to this article. It is to be understood that you will be using this registry edit at your own risk and no warranty is expressed or implied from ITS or the University if you choose to apply this registry edit. The regedit changes a GlobalProtect setting in the Registry to allow an Enter key press to be seen as the same as clicking the Log In button.

Solution

  1. Sign in to an account that is an Administrator on your computer.

  2. Download the regedit file from this article.

  3. Double-click the file and select Run.

  4. A prompt will appear asking if you want to allow Registry Editor to make changes, select Yes.

  5. Another prompt will tell you the dangers of adding information to the Registry and ask if you want to continue select Yes if you are comfortable.

  6. The key should be successfully added to the Registry, restart your computer and you should be all set.
