Troubleshooting Mac OS: Installing Security Updates without Updating Your OS

Question

I am trying to software updates but I am being directed to install other required updates and when I get to the required updates all I see is an MacOS upgrade. How do I install my software updates and required updates without installing an OS upgrade?

Overview

Whenever you try to install software updates you may be required to install security updates as well. This will take out of the managed software updates and to the System software update and it may appear that you have to installing a new operating system. This KB will show you how to get around that.

Solution

If the Managed Software Center sends you to the Software Update screen follow the directions below. Remember while it looks like you have to upgrade to the new OS you only have to install the Other Updates.

  • Locate the spot that reads Other updates are available and click on More Info to download the actual required updates.
